Spoiler-free is the way for me
When was the last time you played an album without knowing anything about the artist, started a movie without watching the trailer - or even reading the synopsis - or reading a book without reading a few user reviews first? If you’re anything like me, it might have been quite a long time.
In recent years I’ve been making conscious changes to improve myself in all kinds of ways. The questions above came from a realization that movie trailers were ruining movies for me. Let me briefly explain…
The Thor movie where the… Ok, so there was a really big moment in a movie that I was really excited to see, and it was plastered all over the previews and we’d all seen it a million times - it only made us want to see the movie even more.
Then, on movie day, the moment comes, and I could immediately tell that the moment that the movie makers had built up the entire movie was spoiled far before I even bought my ticket.
I couldn’t help but think how much better that moment would have been if I saw it the way that the movie makers intended me to see it - with all the context that made it even better than I could have thought.
I will never forgive trailers for ruining that moment. It was the moment in Thor Ragnarok - if you know, you know.
Ever since, I haven’t watched any trailers – literally, none.
I’m not a dick about it, telling you how much better I am at enjoying movies. That stupid concern popped into my head as I wrote this, so I’m including it so I can enjoy posting this.
Anyway, movies are soooooo much better if you have ZERO idea about what they’re about!!!! I promise.
Try it once. Just once.
I’ll then welcome you to the club.
