Social Encouragement
Why people go to a coffee shop to get work done?
‘Cause knowing people around you are likely… possibly working makes you feel guilty if you don’t work, and you get shit done. Well, that’s why I go… that, and I like people.
Anyway, I have an idea:
Work groups who meet up in public working places like coffee shops or libraries to work together, and encourage each other simply by being there. Pretty sure students do this, but why should it end there?
The idea is that, at the start of the session, everyone has an idea of what they want to accomplish, and they can say the thing out loud, if they want to, or they can just pass.
Then, everyone gets to work; knowing for a fact that everyone around you knows that you’re here and committed to working hard, and knowing that they are also working hard, will make you be productive.
I do think the acknowledgement of each other - officially, and not having to wonder if the dude on his laptop was indeed part of the group – is important. It needs to be *known*, not *worried*… People don’t need to talk, if they don’t want to, but I think there should be some kind of acknowledgement.
Personally, I’d find a group like that to be very helpful.
